Background and history
The Cancer Research Grants were established in 2007 to support and advance clinical research in the fields of Oncology. The program has been designed to promote excellence in medical research throughout Australia. It seeks to encourage and help develop the best of our young clinical researchers and extend Pfizer Australia’s commitment and contribution to medicine and the health of our community.
The proposals should involve clinical research or translational research. Translational applications are required to describe how the outcomes from the proposed research project will potentially impact clinical practice, policy, or further research in cancer control.
Pfizer Australia will allocate up to AUD$300,000 per annum to this initiative as part of our continued commitment to cancer research.
This research grants program is open to medical graduates who are early in their research career. Eligible applicants will have entered the field of research, (or returned after an appropriate break) within the last five years of having attained post graduate research or clinical qualifications, whichever is the latter (e.g. the applicant has been awarded a PhD/MD or College Fellowship within the last five years). Individual grants will be available up to AUD$55,000 (including GST). Each grant is for a period of 12 months.
The principal applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia. Grant recipients must conduct the majority of the research within Australia.
All applications are reviewed initially by two independent expert referees. The final decision is then made by the Australian Physicians Independent Committee (APIC), composed of eight leading specialists.
